Grandma finally graduates 60 years after starting college and receives touching tribute
Angela Davidson’s journey to academic success is a tale of perseverance, change, and the evolving role of women in education and professional fields.
In the early 1960s, Angela was one of just six women among 36 students in her veterinary class at the University of Liverpool. Her story, however, took an unexpected turn when she became pregnant in her fourth year and had to leave the program, a decision reflective of the societal norms and educational policies of that era.
Fast forward to December 2023, nearly 60 years later, Angela returned to the University of Liverpool to receive her well-deserved BSc (Hons) in Animal Sciences. This moment was not just a personal victory for Angela but also a symbolic triumph for many women who faced similar challenges in the past. The graduation ceremony was a poignant reminder of how times have changed; today, a veterinary class comprises about 200 students, with women making up approximately 80% of the cohort.
